MLM Holy Smoke I
Waza Bad Boy
(Bass)
They said his name fit him when he was
a stallion; but when he became a gelding, he became one of the most well
behaved and one of the most prized horses at Crosswinds Farm. As
we were leaving the Heartland show in Wichita, Kansas, in 2008, we stopped
to say goodbye to John and Linda Lambert of J and L Training Center; and
Linda mentioned that there was a horse she wanted me to see. After
taking one look at this boy, I knew that I wanted this horse. Standing
at 32" tall, he was one of the most beautiful horses that I had ever seen.
I envisioned him as our “ultimate gelding show horse,” and that dream is
well on its way to being experienced. J and L continued training
and showing him in open halter and solid color gelding, while I showed
him in Amateur Level 2 halter classes; and he continued to win, including
Top Five Senior Gelding at the AMHA World Show, as well as receiving the
AMHA 2008 Ultimate Gelding Award.
Watching him work in the round pen and
on the lunge line after the 2008 AMHA World Show, it was clear that he
was a mover and had potential as a performance horse as well. In
December, we put him with Tammi Nuttall of Winning Ways Training Center
to begin his development as a performance horse. At his first driving
event, he won first in three classes and second in another class, plus
receiving one Grand and three Reserve Grand awards in Country Pleasure
Driving. He continued to ring up the awards with two Championships
and one Reserve Championship at the 2009 AMHA Central Championship Show
and three Top Tens at the 2009 AMHA World Show.
It is my hope that he will become the
miniature horse equivalent of the decathlon champion of track and field,
basically the best athlete at the meet. I wanted to share this little
story with you because we are often asked what people do with these horses,
and this is one example of what one can do. Geldings are wonderful
horses for people of all ages, and “Bass” is truly the “horse for everyone.”
We are proud to own such a great little horse.
